DGHS Plans new rule to limit Medical and Dental Examinees in 2012-2013

Click here for latest news on Medical and Dental Admission 2012-13

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is planning to limit eligible candidates for the combined medical and dental admission test to be held in September.

A proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Director General (DG) Khandaker Md Shefaetullah.

Huge number of GPA 5.00 holders in SSC and HSC examinations have forced the authority to rethink the system. He said " It's a challenge to take exams of a huge number of students. We want to allow three students for each seat to sit the test,".

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology has been following this rule for a long time.

It is to be mentioned that each year around 40,000 students sit for the admission test.

GPA Requirement for MBBS and BDS Admission in last year:

:: Most likely the reason of huge attendance of candidates in medical admission test is the low requirement of GPA in SSC and HSC.  A candidate was considered eligible for Medical and Dental college admission test if he/she has total GPA 8 (SSC+HSC) with a minimum GPA 3.5 in any of the SSC and HSC exams.

Director General taking test of such a huge number of candidates was a 'challenging' task which is 'unnecessary in the current context'. "Thousands of students get maximum GPA, but we allow students to sit the admission test with average GPA-4 in each exam," he added.

"It's very hard to monitor," he said, "It (medical admission test) becomes a public examination."

Frequently Asked Questions on Medical Admission Test 2012-2012:

Q. What is the new criteria for Medical and Dental college admission test?

:: The DG said once the ministry agreed, they would outline the eligibility criteria of students.

Q. Available seats in Medical and Dental colleges?

:: Medical Colleges: 2,811 seats in 22 government and 4,245 seats in 53 private medical colleges.

:: Dental Colleges: 567 in 9 Public and 870 seats in 14 private dental institutes.

Q. When the Medical Admission test 2012-13 will be taken?

:: Medical Education's Director Shah Abdul Latif told that they planned to take the exams before the Dhaka University admission tests slated for Oct 12. Here it is to be mentioned that last year, the combined medical and dental admission test for both public and private institutions was held on Sep 23 for the first time.

Q. How many students will be able to sit for medical and dental admission test this year?

:: This is still a mystery. DGHS plans to keep the available seat and candidate ratio 1:3.

Teletalk to launch 3G SIM(Service) in Dhaka in September

Finally Teletalk (only Govt. Telecom company in Bangladesh) is going to introduce 3G (third generation) SIM in Dhaka from September, 2012. Previously teletalk was supposed to give 3G service from July but failed to do so.

Click here to Join Teletalk Gravity Club

Teletalk 3G SIM in BangladeshOnce introduced in Bangladesh, 3G will make mobile telephony much more efficient, with high-speed data transfer facilitating users to watch mobile TV, make video calls and conference, use GPS (Global Positioning System) navigation and access many other services.

Teletalk Managing Director Mujibur Rahman told "We are taking technical preparations to give the service in the capital. We'll give 3G SIMs to the consumers after the preparations are complete. Teletalk planned to sell 300,000- 500,000 3G SIMs in the capital first".

Network will undergo swap on 17th July and 3G testing will be started from 29th July and continued through whole of the August.

Preference goes to Old Users:

Old customers of teletalk will get preference in distribution of 3G  SIM. Customers who use more credit on mobile will be prioritized. These customers will be able to convert their 2G SIM (Current SIM) to 3G by paying additional amount of money.

Other divisional Cities will be covered after Dhaka:

Chittagong is the city of choice which will come under 3G network after the capital. 700 special BTS will be set up for this purpose. BTS set up in Dhaka is already complete.

Other divisional cities will get 3G at the end of 2013. Currently 13,42000 customers use teletalk SIM- Mujibur added.

The recently approved 3G license draft says the spectrum would be auctioned in September this year. Teletalk will have to take the 3G spectrum spending the same amount of money like others even if it does not take part in the auction, it says.

Apart from Bangladesh's private operators Grameenphone, Banglalink, Citycell, Airtel and Robi, foreign companies will also be able to take part in the auction.

The Bangladeshi operators are currently giving 2G services.
