The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is planning to limit eligible candidates for the combined medical and dental admission test to be held in September.
A proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Director General (DG) Khandaker Md Shefaetullah.
Huge number of GPA 5.00 holders in SSC and HSC examinations have forced the authority to rethink the system. He said " It's a challenge to take exams of a huge number of students. We want to allow three students for each seat to sit the test,".
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology has been following this rule for a long time.
It is to be mentioned that each year around 40,000 students sit for the admission test.
GPA Requirement for MBBS and BDS Admission in last year:
:: Most likely the reason of huge attendance of candidates in medical admission test is the low requirement of GPA in SSC and HSC. A candidate was considered eligible for Medical and Dental college admission test if he/she has total GPA 8 (SSC+HSC) with a minimum GPA 3.5 in any of the SSC and HSC exams.
Director General taking test of such a huge number of candidates was a 'challenging' task which is 'unnecessary in the current context'. "Thousands of students get maximum GPA, but we allow students to sit the admission test with average GPA-4 in each exam," he added.
"It's very hard to monitor," he said, "It (medical admission test) becomes a public examination."
