Who Can Apply for BUET Admission:
- Only those students who have successfully passed SSC or its equivalent examination of the year 2009 or 2010 and HSC or its equivalent examination of the year 2012;
or,
- those students who have passed SSC or its equivalent examination of the year 2009 and HSC or its equivalent examination of the year 2011 and had grade improvement/amendment by their respective board of education after 28/09/2011;
or,
- those students who have passed the GCE “O” Level examination of November 2008 or later and have the GCE “A” Level certificate of November 2011 or laterwill be able to participate in the admission test subject to the fulfillment of other conditions.
- Those students who had sat for the admission test of BUET earlier are not eligible to apply.
Eligibility to Participate in the Admission Test
- The applicant should pass SSC or Dakhil or equivalent examination from any of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Boards or Madrasa Education Board or Technical Education Board with at least a GPA of 4.00 in a scale of 5.00 or with at least an equivalent GPA in an equivalent examination administered by a foreign education board.The applicant should pass HSC or Alim or equivalent examination with Grade Point 5.00 in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English from any of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Boards or Madrasa Education Board or Technical Education Board or an equivalent total grade in equivalent courses from a foreign education board.A maximum of 8000 applicants from all the correctly filled up applications will be selected to sit for the admission test; however, all applicants securing 8000th position will be allowed to sit for the test. A merit list will be prepared based on the GPA obtained in HSC examination, and then GPA obtained in SSC examination.
- Applicants passing the GCE “O” Level and GCE “A” Level and willing to participate in the admission test should earn an average of B grade in at least five subjects (including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English) in GCE “O” Level examination and A grades in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in GCE “A” Level examination.All GCE “O” level and GCE “A” Level applicants fulfilling the minimum requirements will be allowed to sit for the admission test.
- All tribal applicants fulfilling the minimum requirements will be allowed to sit for the admission test.
A “List of Applicants Eligible to Sit for the Admission Test” will be published through general notice posted on BUET notice boards and through the university website (www.buet.ac.bd).
Important Information for Applicants for BUET Admission:
- The application form for Admission Test 2012-2013 of BUET will only be available online. No form will be sold from this University or elsewhere.
- The application fee can be paid only through SMS using Teletalk prepaid mobile phone. Other modes of payment except through SMS will not be accepted.
- Applicants whose “Receipt of Application” is marked by the symbol E, T, S or R (as described in Step 1 below), must also submit the printed copy of the submitted Application Form along with supporting documents (described in Step 4 below) within the due date. Only online submission of such applicants is not acceptable and will be cancelled without notification.
Special Notes:
- The Registrar Office will be closed on Thursdays, Fridays and other Government holidays.
- No applicant will be allowed to enter into the examination hall 30 minutes after the commencement of the admission test.
Only the online submission of the application form for participation in the admission test will be allowed and the required fee for the application can only be paid through SMS using Teletalk pre-paid mobile service. No printed application form will be sold and other modes of payment except through SMS will not be accepted.
Please follow the steps given below for applying to participate in the admission test:
- An applicant should first submit properly filled online application form available at the University website (www.buet.ac.bd). A recently taken passport size color photograph (approximately 300x350 pixel and at most 75 KB size) and the signature (either scanned or photographed, approximately 300x80 pixel and at most 20 KB size) should be uploaded (preferably in the JPG format) with the application form.No writing and no attestation are allowed on this photograph. No illegibility or deformation is allowed in the photograph and signature.Note that the photograph and signature will be verified in the examination hall.
- A “Preview of Application” page of the duly completed application form with photograph and signature will appear when the “Preview” button is clicked. Information given in the application form can be edited, if necessary, by clicking the “Update” button.
- The corrected application form with clear photograph and signature can then be submitted finally by clicking the “Submit” button.
- The successful submission of the application form will generate a confirmation page where a 5-digit Application Serial No. and other relevant instructions will be given. A PDF version of the “Receipt of Application” will be generated automatically when the “Download Receipt of Application” button at the bottom of the confirmation page is clicked. The applicant should take a print out of this “Receipt of Application” on A4 size offset (80 gsm) white paper and keep it safe. You may use Black & White or Color printer for printing the Receipt of Application.
- In the “Application Form” and “Receipt of Application” of some applicants the following symbols may appear:E: For applicants having GCE “O” Level / GCE “A” Level certificate and applicants passed from a foreign education board.T: For tribal applicants.S: When the information provided by the applicant differs from the relevant information collected from the relevant education board.R: When the information provided by a tribal applicant differs from the relevant information collected from the relevant education board.Besides the “Receipt of Application”, a PDF version of the application form will also be generated for these applicants with such symbols. The applicant should take a print out of the application form on one side of white 80 gm (gsm) A4 page (three pages). The first two pages of this 3-page file contain the “Application Form” that has been filled up online, and the third page is the “Receipt of Application Form”. The applicant should keep this application form safe and follow Step 4 for further action.
The applicant should pay the application fee through SMS according to their respective group as given in the table below:

- For SMS, the following procedure should be followed:
- The applicant should go to the SMS option of the Teletalk pre-paid mobile service and typeBUET<space>Application Serial No.and then send it to the number 16222. For example, if the applicant’s 5-digit Application Serial No. is 99999, then s/he should typeBUET 99999
- If the SMS has been sent correctly, a return SMS message with the name of the applicant, the required fee to be paid, and a 8-digit personal identification number (PIN) will be sent to the Teletalk mobile from which the SMS has been sent and also to the applicant’s mobile number that has been provided in the application form. In this return message, the applicant will also be asked to proceed with the payment.
- If the applicant agrees, then s/he should typeBUET<space>YES<space>PINand send the SMS again to the number 16222. For example, if the applicant’s PIN is 88888888, then s/he should typeBUET YES 88888888
- If the applicant has sufficient account balance then the required fee will be deducted and a confirmation SMS will be sent.
Step 3:
Collection of Money Receipt- If an applicant sends the fee for application, s/he can download a PDF version of the money receipt by clicking the “Download Money Receipt” link at the website and then print it on A4 size offset (80 gsm) white paper for future reference. You may use Black & White or Color printer for printing the Money Receipt.
- Applicants whose “Receipt of Application” is marked by the symbol E, T, S or R (as described in Step 1) must submit the hard copy of the following documents to the Registrar's Office, BUET within the specified date (10 Oct 2012, Wednesday, to 23 Oct 2012, Tuesday, from 10.00 AM to 4.30 PM, except on Fridays and other government holidays). Failure to do this will result in the cancellation of the online application.
- The printed application form
- Attested photocopies of grade sheet and certificate of SSC or Dhakhil or equivalent examination.
- Attested photocopy of grade sheet of HSC or Alim or equivalent examination. Tabulation sheet of HSC or Alim or equivalent examination duly attested by the Principal of the concerned institution will also be accepted.
- Printed “Money Receipt”.
- Printed “Receipt of Application”.
- The proof of Bangladeshi citizenship of the tribal applicants and their tribal status. They should submit:
- Certificate from the Principal of the college they have graduated from.
- Certificate from the Chairman of the local Pourashava/Zilla Parishad/Union Parishad.
- Certificate from the Morol/Headman/Chief of the relevant tribe duly attested by the Thana Nirbahi Officer (TNO)/Deputy Commissioner (DC).
- Applicants whose “Receipt of Application” is marked by the symbol E, T, S or R (as described in Step 1) must submit the hard copy of the following documents to the Registrar's Office, BUET within the specified date (10 Oct 2012, Wednesday, to 23 Oct 2012, Tuesday, from 10.00 AM to 4.30 PM, except on Fridays and other government holidays). Failure to do this will result in the cancellation of the online application.
Step 5:
Collection of Admit Card- After declaring the list of eligible applicants for the admission test, an eligible applicant can download the admit card for the Admission Test from the website by clicking the link “Download Admit Card”. S/he must then print this admit card on A4 size offset (80 gsm) white paper and keep it safe. You may use Black & White or Color printer for printing the Admit Card. A candidate shall not be allowed to enter into the examination hall without an Admit Card.
Important Notes to Applicants
- “Information for Undergraduate Admission” (Prospectus) in Bangla is also available online. In case of any ambiguity/discrepancy arising out of translation, the Bangla version shall prevail.

- The application form for Admission Test 2012-2013 of BUET will only be available online. No form will be sold from this University or elsewhere.
- Applications submitted by mail/courier will not be accepted.
- The application fee can be paid only through SMS using Teletalk prepaid mobile phone. Other modes of payment except through SMS will not be accepted.
- Only online submission of the Application Form of the applicants whose “Receipt of Application” is marked by the symbol E, T, S or R will not be acceptable. After submitting the Application Form online, these applicants must also submit the printed copy of the submitted Application Form along with supporting documents within the due date. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the online application.
- Incomplete and/or wrongly filled application form will be cancelled. Any information provided in the application form if proven wrong or untrue will lead to the cancellation of the application.
- If proven later, the admission of a student other than a Bangladeshi citizen will be cancelled.
- A candidate shall not be allowed to enter into the examination hall without an Admit Card.
- No applicant will be allowed to enter into the examination hall 30 minutes after the commencement of admission test.
- The Admission Section of the Registrar Office can be contacted for any help regarding online filling up and submission of the application form. The Registrar Office will be closed on Thursdays, Fridays and other Government holidays.
- The decision made by the Admission Committees in any matter shall be deemed final.
