BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service) Examination System, Download BCS Syllabus

Bangladesh Civil Service is the most desired gateway for the candidates who want to enter government job in Bangladesh. However many of them have almost no knowledge about the examination system and what to study to pass the examination. So here on Education Resource the exam system is briefly discussed.

Total No. of Cadres:


BCS Exams are held for 28 different cadres. Cadres are listed as below:

General cadres



  • BCS (Administration): Assistant Commissioner

  • BCS (Police): Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP)

  • BCS (Foreign Affairs): Assistant Secretary

  • BCS (Audit & Accounts): Assistant Accountant General

  • BCS (Economic): Assistant Chief

  • BCS (Customs & Excise): Assistant Commissioner (Customs & Excise)

  • BCS (Taxation): Assistant Commissioner of Taxes

  • BCS (Food): Assistant Controller of Food / Equivalent Posts

  • BCS (Cooperatives): Assistant Registrar

  • BCS (Trade): Assistant Controller of Import & Export / Equivalent Posts

  • BCS (Postal): Assistant Post Master General / Equivalent Posts

  • BCS (Railway Transportation & Commerce): Assistant Traffic Superintendent

  • BCS (Ansar): Assistant District Commandant / Equivalent Posts

  • BCS (Information): Information Officer / Equivalent Posts

  • BCS (Health and Family Planning): Family Planning Officer


The professional cadres are:



  • BCS (Judicial: Assistant Judge ( Note, following the separation of Judiciary from Executive organ of the Government since 2007 BCS Judicial officers are enjoying a separate service denomination that entails them to be known as belonging to newly established 'Bangladesh Judicial Service)

  • BCS (Public Works): Assistant Engineer

  • BCS (Roads & Highways): Assistant Engineer

  • BCS (Telecommunications): Assistant Divisional Engineer

  • BCS (Public Health Engineering): Assistant Engineer

  • BCS (Forest): Assistant Conservator of Forest

  • BCS (Health): Assistant Surgeon / Medical Officer

  • BCS (Railway Engineering): Assistant Engineer

  • BCS (Livestock): Veterinary Assistant Surgeon / Upazilla Livestock Officer

  • BCS (Fisheries): Upazilla Fisheries Officer

  • BCS (Statistics): Statistical Officer

  • BCS (General Education): Lecturer

  • BCS (Technical Education): Lecturer

  • BCS (Agriculture): Agricultural Extension Officer


Bangladesh Public Service Commission

Eligibility for attending BCS examination:


AGE:


  • 21 to 30 years : For General candidates

  • 21 to 32 years:
    #For Freedom Fighter's Children and Health cadre
    #Tribal candidates for only general education cadre.


 

Examination Procedure:


There are 3 successive stages in the BCS examination. These stages are:




  1. Preliminary Examination

  2. Written examination

  3. Viva voce examination


Preliminary Examination:


This examination is a screening test conducted on the following pattern:
Subject : Bangla, English ,General Knowledge, Bangladesh &    International   affairs, General Science and Technology, Mathematical Reasoning and Mental Ability Everyday science
Duration  : 1 hr
Marks : 100
Question Type : Objective type (MCQ)


Written Examination:


 Subjects for written exam.
i) For General Cadres:  Nine Compulsory subjects.

General Bangla = 200 Marks
General English  = 200 Marks
Bangladesh Affairs  = 200 Marks
International Affairs = 100 Marks
Mathematical Reasoning and Mental Ability = 100 Marks
General Science and Technology  = 100 Marks
Viva Voce = 100 Marks

ii) For technical cadres: Seven compulsory subjects and two post related subjects.
General Bangla = 100 Marks
General English = 200 Marks
Bangladesh Affairs = 200 Marks
International Affairs = 100 Marks
Mathematical Reasoning and Mental Ability = 100 Marks
Two Papers for post Related subject  = 200 Marks
Viva Voce = 100 Marks

iii) One applying for both cadres: Nine compulsory subjects and two post related subjects.

Place of Examination


Preliminary Test and written examination held in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet.

Quota Distribution:

Quota Distribution (for both cadre and non-cadre class I & II gazetted posts):
i)  Merit - 45%
ii) District - 55%
a) Freedom Fighter/Freedom daughters/sons - 30%
b) Female - 10%
c) Tribal - 5%
d) General Quota - 10%
