If you love to surf on internet, you must have bookmarked a lot of sites you like in Mozilla Firefox browser. Mozilla Firefox has endowed with a lot of add ons or small programs which has made it one of the most popular web browsers in the world. It is also true that you often face the situation when you have no other choice but give a fresh set up of your operating system. So what happens then? All your programs and preferences have gone!!
Then what is the way to save your bookmarks, preferences, passwords? Yea a little firefox add-on 'FEBE' (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) can help you do all this job.
How to install FEBE firefox add-on?
- Like other add-ons you have to go : Tools>Add-ons option in your firefox menu.(Or just press Ctrl+Shift+A)
- In the search bar located on the right of the Add-ons Manager write FEBE and search for the program.
- Install and restart firefox to get the extension working.

N.B. FEBE 7.0 is for Firefox 4.0 and above only. For Firefox 3.0, use FEBE 6.0.
How to Backup firefox environment with FEBE:
After installing you will find an option for FEBE in the Tools option like the image below. An icon can be placed on the toolbar via (right-click on toolbar) > Customize...
- At first you will be prompted to define the directory where you want to back up your firefox environment. Then click on what to back up and select fields you want to back up. Bookmarks and username and passwords are mostly chosen by many individuals.
- Then click on perform Backup. Your backup will be saved in your predefined directory and a result page will be shown in the browser what and where FEBE backed up the data.
How to restore Bookmarks and other data with FEBE:
Once you have saved your FEBE backup in a folder, you can easily restore it anytime especially after you have performed a new installation of operating system.
Click on Restore and select what you want to restore. You will be directed to define the folder where the backup is located. After completion of the restore a result page will open in a new tab illustrating the performed work by FEBE.
Other features of FEBE:
- Scheduled automatic backups on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Can also be configured to backup on Firefox startup and/or shutdown.
- Save backups in time-stamped folders to easily identify when the backups were created so that you can delete older ones sparing new one.
